Your Cinco de Mayo 2023 Guide To Enjoy With Your Friends

--

Cinco de Mayo has become synonymous with a lot of things: Margaritas, Mexican food and a great reason to celebrate the cusp of summer. But before you raise a glass and dive into those chips and salsa, take a second to appreciate the holiday’s origins.

It was May of 1862 when the French invaded Mexico — again — over unresolved debts. In an unlikely turn of events, the Mexican army defeated the French in the Battle of Puebla.

Although they eventually lost the war, they certainly won the battle, and you can still visit the city of Puebla today to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Below we highlight some fun and festive ways to enjoy the day as well as some delicious cocktails that you will want to enjoy all summer long.

The exceptional tequila is available in select U.S. markets including New York, Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles at an SRP of $179.

Lobos 1707 Tequila, Joven

Young in spirit, old in soul, Joven is elevated by being mixed with a measure of Lobos 1707 Tequila, Reposado. The liquid is carbon-filtered, then finished in the brand’s historic Pedro Ximénez (PX) wine barrels using the solera system method, resulting in a more mature flavor profile.

DeLeón Reposado Tequila

Ultra-Premium DeLeón Reposado Tequila blends the craft of the French winemakers with the art of fine tequila to create a Reposado with the incredible richness and complexity imparted by aging in both American (2/3 of the time) and French Oak barrels used to age wine (1/3 of the time). Made from selected 100% Blue Weber agave tequilana sourced from the rich earth of the Los Altos region of Jalisco, the agave is hand-selected for ripeness before harvesting and yields sweet piñas to achieve the smoothness of DeLeón Tequila.

Tequila Bribón

Tequila Bribón, produced by one of the top tequila families in Mexico, is the proud result of a mission to bring a high-quality tequila that everyone can embrace from newbies to aficionados. This outstanding 100% blue agave tequila is made using only fully matured 8- to 10-year-old agaves, all harvested by hand. The end result is a complex and sophisticated ultra-premium tequila available at a great value price-point, that is also extremely approachable and easy to drink. In addition, just in time for Cinco de Mayo, the brand has just released new label designs featuring a sleek and elegant aesthetic that matches the quality of the ultra-premium spirit.

Mayenda Tequila

Mayenda’s pioneering process adds two extra steps of craft and care — maceration and the blending of agave miel into the base distillate — to capture the deep flavors and aromas of cooked agave, which are often lost in tequila-making. The result is a richer, more complex Blanco tequila ideal for sipping.

Served neat and at room temperature; to experience the full range of Mayenda’s flavors, sip and pair alongside a roasted and raw pineapple slice both dipped in pink Himalayan salt.

Volcán Cristalino Tequila

Volcán’s premium, aged Tequila Cristalino blends robust notes such as vanilla, caramel, and chocolate, all blended in casks from the old world to create a unique, but deep flavor. This Anejo Cristalino is filtered in order to remove it’s color and accentuate it’s rich flavors.

Volcán Blanco Tequila

Volcán’s Tequila Blanco blends herbal, citrus, and spice notes indicative of the lowlands with fruit notes of cherry, pear, and peach from the highlands. Made with 100% heart, this Blanco is crafted with only the very best agave sourced from each of these distinct regions.

Próspero Tequila

Próspero Tequila is distilled by Stella Anguiano, one of Mexico’s only premier female Master Distillers, alongside International pop star and Chief Creative Partner, Rita Ora. The two work together to change the perception of tequila as a male-dominated spirit. Próspero Tequila is available in three expressions: Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo.

Próspero is born of the lush, volcanic soil in the tequila valley of Jalisco. Every element is crafted by hand: from the elegant bottle to the exquisite flavor profile, to the artistically illustrated label. Próspero is driven by a commitment to work slowly and with passion, all driven by a woman’s touch. Stella has perfected her craft with Próspero Tequila, from the roasting of agave hearts to hand selecting the spirit’s final cut. All three expressions are made from 100% blue agave tequila from the lowlands of Jalisco, Mexico.

Crafted with 100% Weber Blue Agave, these heralded premium tequilas are distilled in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, Mexico, and include Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo.

Cenote Tequila & Stoli Chamoy

This year, Stoli Group is taking Cinco de Mayo celebrations to the next level, bringing two of their bottles together to create unique cocktails with Cenote Tequila & Stoli Chamoy, the first Chamoy flavored vodka.

Cenote Tequila urges you to move from the obvious margarita and embrace authenticity by adding another special flavor of Chamoy to the mix. Bringing Stoli Chamoy offers another aspect of Mexican gastronomy to the fiesta. Your readers can move beyond the cliche of the holiday and try new and innovative cocktails, such as the Polished Casual Dining, and their paletas, Boozy Pops.

Freshie

Freshie was born in Mexico after founders, Ryne and Paige Iseminger took a group trip there in 2016 where Ryne whipped up a deliciously refreshing cocktail but without the added sugar that gives you that killer headache. Today, that very drink has morphed into the first USDA-certified tequila seltzer on the market made in partnership with a fourth generation family-owned distillery in Jalisco, Mexico (the real deal).

At only 99 cals a can and with no added sugar the flavorful drink comes in 3 fresh flavors: Lime, Grapefruit Guava, and Blood Orange Habanero.

Mi Campo Ready-to-Serve Tequila Cocktails

Debuting two tasty pour and serve cocktails — The Mango Mule & Spicy Jalapeño Margarita — these sessionable drinks are made with Mi Campo Blanco and Reposado which are double distilled, fermented in open-air tanks and rested in wine barrels from Napa Valley creating a level of complexity to each RTD experience to date.

Bergamot Orange Sparkling Margarita

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a clean margarita that doesn’t skimp on the tequila. Our family recipe combines a full-bodied, blanco tequila with a floral winter-grown Italian bergamot orange that’s more sour than sweet. With more spirit, more flavor, and far less sugar, go ahead and opt for extra chips & queso when you’re drinking this one. 12.5% ABV.

Monaco Cocktails Lime Crush

An excellent choice for anyone who enjoys a classic sparkling margarita, this premixed canned cocktail combines agave tequila with a refreshing lime flavor! Monaco Cocktails Lime Crush has two shots in every 12oz can, 9% ABV, and no gluten or malt. (Available at liquor, grocery and convenience stores nationwide)

BrightCellars

What says ‘summer’ more than a margarita on the rocks? The real thing, not the fizzy stuff in cans. But who wants to hop out of the pool to make another batch from scratch when cups run dry? Total buzzkill.

Bright Cellars has you covered. Its new, ready-to-drink margaritas come in in full-size bottles and are delivered straight to your door. Coined Day & Night, these completely shareable, ready-to-go margs come in two delicious flavors, Classic Lime and Fresh Strawberry. Pour. Add ice. Sip. Cheers!
