Delmonico’s

Women should always feel safe and welcome — especially in NYC. Delmonico’s restaurant, historically known for welcoming all to its tables — especially women, has announced its new Power Lunch offering. An initiative to encourage women to get out together, and a nod to the popular NYC power lunch, this new pre-fixe menu launched this week and is available to all who are looking for a midday break, meeting, or celebration. Featuring two and three course menu options, offerings include the Wedge Salad, Crabcake, Wagyu Burger, Mushroom Risotto, Steak Frites and of course a selection of deserts including the infamous Baked Alaska.

To kick off the new Power Lunch, best-selling novelist, TV producer, Sex and the City author and NYC iconCandace Bushnell is hosting a private reception celebrating female friendship, success, and NYC women’s history. An afternoon celebrating the NYC return of her one-woman show after sell-out shows in Europe and Canada, Candace’s show, the critically acclaimed True Tales of Sex, Success and Sex and the City returns to Cafe Carlyle April 23–27(tickets here).

Delmonico’s is historically known for its Ladies Luncheons. In fact, on April 20, 1868, Delmonico’s made international news by hosting the inaugural “Ladies’ Luncheon,” organized by The Sorosis Club’s founding members Jane Cunningham Croly along with Josephine Pollard and Fanny Fern Parton. The gathering was a groundbreaking move as it was the first time women were able to dine without men. American journalist Jane Cunningham Croly, Delmonico’s, and the Delmonico brothers (some of the first male feminist) played pivotal roles, setting the stage for women’s rights activism.

From April 20 through May 31, a percentage of Delmonico’s pink Baked Alaska (a twist on this classic dessert that the restaurant is known for) and pink Cosmo cocktail will be donated to The Retreat, a women’s domestic violence shelter in East Hampton, NY, a non-profit organization selected by Bushnell who splits her time between NYC and Sag Harbor.

Each spring, in acknowledgment of this special date in history, the restaurant plans to host an annual Power Lunch menu and ladies luncheon with special guests to raise awareness and support for local, regional, and/or national non-profit organizations that support women.

The new Power Lunch pre-fixe menus start at $36.
